Young Jesse Puljujarvi was reportedly involved, at least according to an anonymous NHL executive quoted by Montreal Hockey New.
This confirms a big rumor that was circulating, and it's also interesting because this same source mentions that the Habs' interest, in Puljujarvi, is still very much alive (and he's clearly on the trade market)
If the price was too high in the eyes of Kent Hughes at the time of the draft in Montreal, let's bet that it has greatly decreased since. Puljujarvi certainly didn't help his GM by stating publicly that he doubts his abilities right now.
The talent is there, there is absolutely no doubt about it, but the kid is in dire need of a fresh start after the Oilers failed to develop him.
If the price isn't too high, it's clearly worth a try according to many experts, especially since we're talking about a youngster who is barely 24 years old.
As Kent Hughes has said so well in the past, it's all about buying low and selling high. Puljujarvi could absolutely be a Buy Low. He was drafted fourth overall for a reason, and if we can go out and get him for practically free, why not.
Do you feel the same way?
Puljujarvi, 24, is a 6-foot-4, 200-pound winger. He had 14 goals and 36 points (in 65 games) last season and has six points this season. He has been a standout alongside Patrik Laine and Sebastian Aho.
