We just learned that the Toronto Maple Leafs have traded young defenseman Brennan Menell to the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for future considerations.
Menell, 24, had a disappointing five points in 20 games this season in the American Hockey League with the Toronto Marlies, the Maple Leafs' feeder club.
Because he was traded after the NHL trade deadline, Menell will not be able to play in the NHL this week and will have to continue his professional career with the Philadelphia Flyers' feeder club.
We're talking about a back who looked promising after putting together seasons of 44 points in 70 games and 47 points in 57 games in the AHL despite his young age, but his development clearly seems to have stalled and he's having a rough season.
Since Menell was traded to the Flyers and will have to finish his season in the AHL, he can no longer play his 30 games with Toronto.
They will keep their 7th round pick in 2022.
