Last Friday night, the Laval Rocket suffered elimination in a heartbreaking loss. Indeed, the Utica Comets tied the game with less than two seconds left in the third period before escaping with the victory and the series in overtime.
The team was back at Place Bell on Saturday for its annual report.
During his turn in front of the microphones, forward Rafaël Harvey-Pinard made some very interesting comments. He thinks he played his last game with the Rocket!
Here is his statement:
I think I played my last game with Laval, but I repeat, the training camp is going to be so important. With all the injured players from the Canadiens coming back, I'll have to prove that I deserve a full-time spot - Rafaël Harvey-Pinard
And we are 100% in agreement with him!
The player who was sent back to Laval at the end of the season to help the team make the playoffs impressed greatly with the Habs this season. He finished the season with a total of 20 points, including 14 goals, in 34 games with the Canadiens. These are quite impressive statistics that almost guarantee him a spot on the big club next season. However, the main interested party knows that he will have to show up in shape and have good performances at camp.
If he thinks he's done with the Rocket, Harvey-Pinard is no less proud of his Laval teammates. With the many call-ups the Habs made this season, there's plenty to hold their heads high about.
It was a season with a lot of learning for me, however, it didn't end the way I wanted it to, which is too bad, but I think the guys can be proud of making the playoffs with the number of injuries we had. - Rafaël Harvey-Pinard
The next step for the Jonquière native will be to come to terms with Kent Hughes on the terms of a contract for at least next season. The player, who will become a restricted free agent this summer, will certainly be looking for a one-way deal with the big club, and who knows, maybe for several seasons. He will have the option of going to arbitration if he doesn't get what he wants, but let's hope he won't have to use that card!
