Retirement can be difficult for a hockey player. When you have played this sport almost every day since the age of 5, moving on is a kind of mourning.
If some manage to find a job in the field, those who still have the itch but can't make it work, find other solutions. That's what former NHL players Shea Weber, Josh Gorges, Duncan Keith and Mike Smith did when they decided to coach their children's team at the Osoyoos Desert Classic spring tournament.
It's a great idea because in addition to seeing their kids grow and develop, they can give advice to the young players and help them progress. Of course, the goal of the four former players is unanimous, to have fun.
» I'm trying to help the children as best as possible, to have fun, and to make the most of it! These kids will have memories of these moments throughout their lives! » - Shea Weber
» I love seeing them develop and grow as hockey players. It's really fun! » - Josh Gorges
What's even more interesting is to see that the young players have idols who are from a completely different generation than the four dads. The names of Connor McDavid, Sidney Crosby, Cale Makar, and Charlie McAvoy were mentioned by them, as if the players from their parents' generation didn't exist.
A nice announcement as a bonus.
We learn, in particular, that Shea Weber has become a coach!
