As you know, the Montreal Canadiens have accumulated several young players and drafted many prospects over the past few years during this rebuilding period, and it's not over yet.

Kent Hughes still has several draft picks in the next two drafts.

This very large number of accumulated young players comes with big decisions to be made.

With a limited number of contracts, tough choices need to be made, and some youngsters simply have to be let go. This was notably the case for the tall goaltender Frederik Dichow last summer.

It appears to be the case for another youngster. We're talking about defenseman Petteri Nurmi.

Nurmi to be released at the end of the season? That's the decision that seems to be on the horizon!

Nurmi, a seventh-round pick by the Montreal Canadiens in 2022 (194th overall), is at a crossroads.

Kent Hughes will have to decide at the end of this season whether to retain his rights, or he will become an unrestricted free agent.

Let's say the young lad is making things easier for the CH, according to journalist Nicolas Cloutier.

"CH prospect Petteri Nurmi (7th round, 194th overall in 2022) has only one assist in 14 games in Finland this season.

The Canadiens must offer him a contract at the end of the year if they want to keep his rights. I'd say he's making their job easier right now."

Nicolas Cloutier, TVA Sports

He had accumulated 15 points in 48 games last year, in Finland.

With the organizational depth on defense, don't be surprised if he's released.
