The Habs have been linked to a top defenseman by Elliotte Friedman

Arizona Coyotes defenseman Jakob Chychrun, who scored 18 goals and 41 points last season, is having a much harder time making an impact this season, as is his team.

The 23-year-old defenseman has just seven points, including two goals, in 26 games so far and has a terrible -29 rating. His team, which is languishing in last place in the Central Division, is reportedly testing the market to see what return they could get by trading the pillar of their defensive brigade.

As a result, tipster Elliotte Friedman revealed during his 32 Thoughts podcast that the price to acquire him would be enormously high. Despite this, several teams would be interested in his services, including the Montreal Canadiens...

It remains to be seen what Jeff Gorton will think, because if he wants to undertake a rebuild, he will certainly refuse to give up a first round pick, or even youngsters like Cole Caufield and Kaiden Guhle, which is exactly what the Coyotes will want.

The arrival of a mobile and extremely gifted offensive defenseman like Chychrun would certainly do the Tricolore's defense a world of good, but the price to pay is not necessarily in line with the direction the Montreal organization seems to be heading in. In short, to be continued...
