The NHL announces a major suspension for Brendan Gallagher, and the Canadiens are set to announce the official end of his consecutive games streak
As you know, last night against the New York Islanders, forward Brendan Gallagher seriously got himself in hot water with that hit on defenseman Adam Pelech.
Earlier today, the NHL's Department of Player Safety summoned Gallagher for a telephone meeting, which opens the door to a suspension ranging from 0 to 5 games.
The verdict has just been announced.
5-game suspension for Gallagher
Gallagher will therefore be eligible to return to play on February 15th, against the Rangers live from New York.
Often injured in recent years, Gallagher was on a rare good streak of consecutive games played, but that is now over.
The Canadiens will have to announce his replacement soon for the next 20 days. Will it be Joshua Roy? To be continued.
Gallagher, 31, thus puts his season on hold after having amassed 16 points, including eight goals, in 48 games.
Details to follow.
