The tall right-handed defender had to give up his spot in the lineup a few times during the team's last trip, and it's legitimate to wonder about his place among the organization's defenders.
Despite an interesting offensive production this season, with five goals and seven points in 35 games at the time of writing, number 26 is providing excellent service to Martin St-Louis. As reported by Samuel Doiron from Habsolumentfan.com, Kent Hughes could take this opportunity to offer him to other NHL teams.
We're not talking about a mega-trade here, but Kovacevic could be an interesting target for a team looking for depth ahead of the playoffs.
Looking at the Canadiens' defenders who might interest other NHL teams, Kovacevic's name obviously doesn't come first. We can think of David Savard and Michael Matheson, who could potentially bring back a very good return.
Coming back to Kovacevic, he would become an excellent insurance policy for a team in search of a depth defender and at a salary of only $767,000 this season, the risk of acquiring him isn't very high.
Obviously, it's still early for certain speculations surrounding the CH's defender, but if Kent Hughes ever received interesting offers for Kovacevic, he would be crazy not to listen.
