Like many people, we were surprised when the Montreal Canadiens announced the acquisition of another goaltender.
As part of the trade concluded Sunday between CH and Pittsburgh, goaltender Casey DeSmith arrived in Montreal, and this has raised many questions about the goaltending situation.
However, we have just learned very interesting information that speaks volumes about Kent Hughes.
Immediately after the announcement of the acquisition of DeSmith, the Canadiens' general manager hurried to call Samuel Montembeault's agent to reassure him.
Wow. Not all GMs would have done that.
"After surprising everyone by acquiring Casey DeSmith, Kent Hughes quickly called Samuel Montembeault's agent to reassure him and tell him that the Quebec goaltender didn't have to worry about his position."
- Simon-Olivier Lorange
The goaltender added this:
"Kent was super straightforward. Practically as soon as the trade was done, he spoke with my agent to tell him not to worry me. It's nice that he took the time to do that."
- Samuel Montembeault
Case closed, then! Montembeault is firmly in place as CH's goaltender, and we are already looking forward to seeing him back in action in a few weeks.
He will evidently be the team's number one goalie to start the next campaign.
