We talk a lot about the uncertainty regarding Jeff Petry's future, but few are talking about Casey DeSmith's situation. The latter is as much in the dark as his teammate, and the goaltender is currently going through very difficult, if not distressing, times.
Indeed, with a spouse who should give birth in a very short time, the small family has no idea what will happen to them.
"I am told that Casey DeSmith and his partner are experiencing a great deal of anxiety right now. His wife is due to give birth in the next few hours/days and is still in Pittsburgh. The goalie, for his part, is waiting to find out under what circumstances he will have to move his little family."
We can really understand them. It's concerning for them. It's a huge source of stress and it has a big impact on their lives right now.
As reported by Anthony Martineau in his article, even though they are professionals and have favorable salary conditions, hockey players are human in the end. It is easy to speculate about trading this or that person, but in real life, a transaction has a tremendous impact on a player's life and his family. We see this very clearly in Casey DeSmith's situation.
According to the TVA Sports journalist, the Canadiens are still active behind the scenes in trying to trade a goaltender. However, the organization still seems to be looking for the most advantageous option with its goalkeepers, and it would be unwise to jump to the conclusion that DeSmith will be the one to leave the CH.
Montreal seems open for business regarding its goaltenders, I am also told. The club has not yet made a decision, is listening attentively, and gives the impression of looking for the most profitable avenue for itself."
Montembeault is the least likely to leave, Kent Hughes would have reassured him as soon as the transaction was approved, Jake Allen or even Cayden Primeau might be the chosen ones.
This will be a matter to watch closely, as much as Jeff Petry's situation, in the coming days.
