In a press conference a few days ago, the General Manager of the Montreal Canadiens, Kent Hughes, explained how crucial it is for the organization to be able to place goaltender Carey Price on the regular season LTIR, rather than the off-season LTIR.

This would grant the Habs significantly more flexibility and it's a significant advantage (with an eye towards future trades).

In essence, the regular season LTIR is much more beneficial than the off-season LTIR.

The question then is:

After the trade announced yesterday by the Canadiens, involving the Vancouver Canucks and Tanner Pearson, does this change the plan?

Good news! The answer is no!

"And in case you were wondering, the Habs have plenty of cap space - they won't need to place Carey Price on the off-season LTIR for this trade to work."

- Frank Seravalli

Love it!

Even with this trade, Carey Price can still be placed on the regular season long-term injured list. Mission accomplished for Kent Hughes, and what management once again on his part!
