Will it come through a trade, or a waiver claim?
Let's remember what Kent Hughes himself has confirmed publicly.
First, he hates the idea of putting Cayden Primeau on waivers and wants to avoid this at all costs ideally.
Secondly, he is aware that keeping three goalies is not a viable long-term solution, and it is likely that this issue will be resolved before December. (we are already in November)
In the past few hours, the renowned insider Darren Dreger has discussed the Montreal Canadiens, and more specifically the CH's goaltenders.
He has caused a surprise.
For several months, two solutions have been constantly coming back. (trade Primeau or put him on waivers, or trade Jake Allen)
And now Dreger has just raised a new possibility.
Darren Dreger, during a segment on TSN, indeed mentioned the possibility that Samuel Montembeault could be traded by Kent Hughes. Wow.
If he says it, it's because it comes from a well-informed source.
He explains in particular that Montembeault has the highest value of the three CH goalkeepers, currently, on the trade market.
See the excerpt.
In short, all three goaltenders are "at risk" of being traded, and Montembeault is not immune to this, contrary to what we thought.
That said, we still believe he is the least likely of the three to change addresses by Christmas, even if his value is higher.
We still believe that it is unfortunately Cayden Primeau who will suffer.
