Even though the draft is still far away, there are already surprisingly some rumors circulating.
As you know, the 2023 draft will be extremely important for the Canadiens and will be a turning point in the reconstruction of the club.
While visiting TSN 690 this morning, journalist Brian Wilde made a statement that is already worrying several fans.
Wilde stated that the Canadiens would like to add size and physicality to their lineup in June of next year.
He even declared on the air:
As my colleague Nicolas Desrosiers mentions, this is far from good news, as this is exactly the kind of draft strategy that contributes the most to selection errors.
Wanting to draft players for their physicality and size does not seem like a very advantageous strategy.
As reported by Danslescoulisses.com, Wilde added that he would not be surprised to see the Canadiens draft off the board if they do not end up in the top 5 in the first round.
This means that Montreal's executives would not be afraid to draft a player who is ranked outside of the top 20, for example, with a top 10 pick.
By overlooking very promising but smaller players such as Zach Benson, Matvei Michkov, Oliver Moore, Ryan Leonard, Andrew Cristall, Gabe Perreault, etc., Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton could make a mistake, as Nick Bobrov has already done with the New York Rangers.
It is worrying, but let's wait and see.
