A Trade Completed Between the Oilers and Canadiens Has Been Deemed a Big Steal by a Scout
I think Kent Hughes has been doing a really good job since becoming the GM of the Montreal Canadiens. He has completed several impressive trades, but there's one in particular that I think is really solid.
The Canadiens traded Brett Kulak to the Edmonton Oilers in 2022, and in return, the Habs received a second-round pick.
That pick turned into one of the Canadiens' best young players.
When you think about it, it's a trade that shows just how well Hughes and his scouts know what they're doing. I'll let you guess who it is.
Kent Hughes knows what he's doing, the acquisitions of Lane Hutson and Michael Hage clearly prove it
It's similar to the Sean Monahan trade.
The Canadiens received Monahan and a conditional first-round pick from the Calgary Flames.
Then, they traded Monahan for another first-round pick, which allowed them to add Michael Hage.
In my opinion, these are smart trades that show Hughes is building a strong future for the Canadiens.
By trading players like Kulak at the right time, they obtained a draft pick that turned into a player who could hurt other teams: Lane Hutson.
I think trades like these are what make us really excited to see what the Habs can accomplish with Hughes as GM.
«Happy birthday to former Canadiens defenseman Brett Kulak, who turns 31 today.
In 39 games with the Edmonton Oilers this season, he has a total of 5-7-12 and a plus-minus of plus-5.
The Canadiens used the second-round pick they acquired by trading Kulak to the Oilers in 2022 to select Lane Hutson.»
