It could change everything for the coming years.
Before we know it, June is getting closer and closer, as is the end of the season.
There are only twelve games left to play for the CH this season, and at the time of writing, the organization currently finds itself in the 6th position (overall) in the reverse standings.
This means:
- Respectable chances of drafting Macklin Celebrini and winning the lottery, but most importantly;
- A very likely top-6 overall pick at the next selection session.
This could definitely allow Kent Hughes to make a big acquisition on June 28th.
Indeed, before the Sens' big winning streak, Kent Hughes had little chance of drafting top-5 or top-6.
However, with the Senators' big victory last night by a score of 6 to 2 against the Buffalo Sabres, and thanks to their recent wins, they have officially surpassed Montreal in the overall standings.
Here's the current situation:
26. OTTAWA - 64 POINTS IN 70 GAMES (30 WINS)
27. MONTREAL - 64 POINTS IN 70 GAMES (26 WINS)
28. ARIZONA - 63 POINTS IN 71 GAMES (29 WINS)
29. COLUMBUS - 58 POINTS IN 71 GAMES (23 WINS)
Things could still change tonight, but Ottawa's success certainly improves Kent Hughes' chances of adding a special player in June.
Special talent forwards like Berkly Catton, Cayden Lindstrom, Konsta Helenius, and Cole Eiserman suddenly become reachable for Montreal.
