BOOM: A $64 million contract signed between Juraj Slafkovsky and the Montreal Canadiens? This has officially been suggested by several experts
With his recent spectacular outbreak, and the fact that he is just beginning to show the full extent of his huge potential, more and more experts are already calling for an eight-year contract for Juraj Slafkovsky with the Montreal Canadiens.
The advantage for Kent Hughes is that it could become a real steal in the long term, and moreover, he would officially have his three best players under contract until (at least) 2030.
The "disadvantage" is that the Canadiens are taking a certain short-term risk, and will pay Slaf more expensively more quickly.
JiC calls for 8 years for Slafkovsky!
"For me, the Canadiens have no choice but to sign him to an eight-year contract," he dropped at JiC. "What we've seen from him over the last two months shows that this is not a flash in the pan. He's a confident guy, who despite being 19 years old in the Montreal market, is able to handle the pressure." [...]
"That's why, in my opinion, it's important to reward the success he's having right now. It will show everyone that hard work pays off." - Via TVA Sports
What price for an 8-year contract for Juraj Slafkovsky right now?
We are lucky, because there is already a perfect comparison for negotiations between Slaf and Kent Hughes.
Jack Hughes, a 1st overall pick who had exactly the same statistics as Juraj Slafkovsky at the same age, has just recently signed an eight-season contract with the New Jersey Devils.
Jack Hughes signed a contract for 8 million dollars for eight seasons.
At the time, it seemed expensive, but today it's already a real bargain for the Devils!
So, taking the same example.. A 64 million dollar contract, for 8 years, would you do it with Juraj Slafkovsky? Is it too soon?
Also, Laraque recommended signing him for a sum below what Suzuki and Caufield receive, suggesting an 8-year contract at $7 million annually.
