Let's not forget that.
At the beginning of the season, if we remember correctly, many experts believed that Primeau was going to be put on waivers (and it almost happened), but the Habs' general manager saw something in him and ultimately decided to keep the young goaltender as the 3rd in Montreal.
It really didn't receive unanimous support at the time, especially since the three-goalie situation ended up being long and painful (and lasted much longer than expected), but today it's paying off big time for Hughes.
In Hughes' place, many GMs would have simply taken the easy decision and would have put Cayden Primeau on waivers.
After all, the goaltender took up a precious "spot" in the 23-player lineup of the Canadiens for a large part of the season.
Imagine how painful it would be today if the CH had lost Primeau for nothing and if he was as dominant with a club like the Toronto Maple Leafs or the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Primeau, 24, boasts an impressive save percentage of 0.949 and a goals-against average of 1.75 at this late point in the season. (0.913 and 2.75 if counting the whole season)
He has participated in 18 games.
Primeau secured another victory last night against the Philadelphia Flyers, and he was named the first star of the game after blocking 29 of the 30 shots directed at him.
He nearly recorded ANOTHER shutout.
What a solid decision by Kent Hughes! Sometimes, the best decisions are the ones we don't make!
Let's trust Kent Hughes! He knows what he's doing!
Tony Marinaro believes that the Canadiens can put Cayden Primeau on waivers.
