Ivan Demidov Speaks Out on a Possible New Role with the Montreal Canadiens
Montreal Canadiens prospect Ivan Demidov is wreaking havoc in the KHL, and in my opinion, it's a real stroke of luck that Kent Hughes managed to draft him.
At just 19 years old, he has broken a record by becoming the highest-scoring player in league history for a player under 20, even surpassing Kirill Kaprizov.
This is just incredible, seriously!
Not only is he dominating offensively, but he has also been named SKA St. Petersburg's best player for two consecutive months.
He participated in the KHL All-Star Game and impressed everyone.
Next year, he will arrive in the NHL with the Montreal Canadiens.
But the big question is: where will he play?
With Kirby Dach's issues at center and Patrik Laine's inconsistent five-on-five play, it's crucial to give him a role where he can shine.
Ivan Demidov speaks on a possible new role as a center with the Montreal Canadiens
Some believe he could play center, but he himself admits he's not sure if it's a good idea.
He has played that position in junior hockey and did well, but he never got that chance in the KHL, and his faceoff percentage isn't the best.
Honestly, I think the best option is to keep him on the wing and find him a true center for the second line.
Kent Hughes must do everything necessary to maximize his potential because a talent like Demidov doesn't come around often.
If the best way to make him shine is to use him as a winger, just like Kaprizov, then that's what the Canadiens need to prioritize for Demidov.
"Honestly, I don't even know if I could play center. I'd have to try. I played center a few times in junior hockey and felt fine, said Demidov.
But SKA never uses me there. Face-offs would probably be the key factor, I don't always win them."
