We have an interesting last-minute development involving the excellent young defenseman, Thomas Harley. While he was told to stay in Boston yesterday in case Canada needed him for the Four Nations Faceoff, he has now officially been given the green light to head to Montreal.

Here's what Pierre LeBrun just reported:

«NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly stated that the league and the NHLPA discussed today and agreed, given the circumstances, that Thomas Harley could join Team Canada in case Cale Makar (illness) is unable to play on Saturday night.»

- Pierre LeBrun

These are strange rules and technicalities, but the key takeaway here is that Thomas Harley is officially heading to Montreal as reinforcements for Team Canada.

Thomas Harley to Replace Shea Theodore and/or Cale Makar

This confirms it for Habs defensemen Mike Matheson.

It's unfortunate for the veteran Montreal Canadiens defenseman, who probably deserved this "call-up," but Harley is also an excellent defenseman.

We will have to closely monitor the health status of the best defenseman in the world, Cale Makar, hoping that Jon Cooper won't have to call on Harley.

A virus seems to be spreading in Canada's locker room.

Thomas Harley, 23 years old, is a left-handed defenseman standing 6-foot-3 and weighing 211 pounds.

The 18th overall pick by the Dallas Stars in 2019 (18th overall) has accumulated 29 points in 53 games this season after recording 47 points last season.

Makar, 26 years old, has 63 points in 57 games this season with the Colorado Avalanche. He has been sensational.

Let's really hope that Makar can play tomorrow against Team USA.
