Joshua Roy Admits to Struggles: Young Canadiens Forward Reflects on Disappointing Camp
Montreal Canadiens' young forward Joshua Roy recently opened up about the past few weeks.
Despite many believing he should have started the 2024-2025 season in the NHL, Roy ultimately had to settle for the AHL.
After a slow start with the Laval Rocket, the dominant Roy has returned, tallying 12 points in 11 games, including seven goals, after being held scoreless in his first four games of the season.
Joshua Roy opens up about his training camp
In a recent interview, Roy indeed admitted some hard truths.
He confessed that he really didn't have a training camp that met expectations. He clearly wasn't ready to secure his spot, and he lost it as a result.
Speaking on RDS, Joshua Roy acknowledged that he was aware his training camp wasn't up to par.
Rocket: Joshua Roy knew he had a difficult camp to overcome.
«Last year, I got a taste of the NHL, and I think I proved to myself that I can play in this league. I know I didn't have the best camp»- Joshua Roy
So the next question is: when will Joshua get another opportunity in the NHL?
After Oliver Kapanen left for Europe, it was Lucas Condotta, not Joshua Roy who was called up to Montreal.
Clearly, the Canadiens want to develop Joshua Roy into a more complete player, with a solid forecheck and a stronger two-way game.
This is a story to keep an eye on, but it's very encouraging to hear Joshua speaking like this. It shows a lot of maturity.
