Kent Hughes has just gotten rid of a forward from the Canadiens organization
We have just learned that Kent Hughes has shown the door to a forward from the Montreal Canadiens organization.
According to the excellent journalist Nicolas Cloutier of TVA Sports, the Canadiens' general manager has decided to let the young forward Rhett Pitlick go.
So, it's over for him in Montreal.
Rhett Pitlick is Ejected from the Montreal Canadiens Organization
Pitlick will be free as a bird and can sign with any team of his choice starting today. We sincerely wish him the best of luck in the future.
«Forward Rhett Pitlick is no longer a prospect for the Montreal Canadiens.
This was confirmed to TVASports.ca by email. The team no longer holds his rights, so he will be able to access full free agency.»
- Via TVA Sports
Pitlick, 23, is a 5-foot-10, 170-pound forward who was drafted in the 5th round by the Montreal Canadiens in 2019.
He was indeed selected by the previous regime, that of Marc Bergevin and Trevor Timmins.
Pitlick had just experienced (in 2023-2024) his best season ever in the NCAA, collecting a solid 36 points in 39 games, including 19 goals, with the University of Minnesota.
Therefore, it is a somewhat surprising decision, but at the same time, Montreal has so many prospects!
The 23-year-old forward should generate interest in the National Hockey League and should have his chance with a new team.
To think that Trevor Timmins saw in him a possible future Jake Guentzel...
«Rhett, brother of Rem, former Canadien forward, has just concluded his best season in the NCAA, but this clearly did not convince the management given the number of prospects on offense. A 5th-round pick in 2019.»
«When Timmins and Shane Churla drafted Rhett Pitlick, they were hoping that, in the best-case scenario, the young man would become a player with a style similar to that of Jake Guentzel.»
- Nicolas Cloutier, TVA Sports
Details will follow.
