Habs fans say it, Habs journalists and analysts say it, and the best experts in the National Hockey League generally say it too.
Indeed, it's no coincidence that GM Kent Hughes has had so much success in the NHL so far.
It's simply because he is genuinely passionate.
It might not always seem obvious, but the job of a general manager can be extremely difficult and demanding. That's why NHL GMs really need summer vacations.
Columbus Blue Jackets' GM, Don Waddell, recently mentioned that he's having difficulty trading Patrik Laine right now, simply because many NHL executives are on vacation at this point in the offseason.
But what about Kent Hughes?
It may seem trivial, but it's a significant gesture to see that Kent Hughes personally traveled to Edmonton for the Hlinka/Gretzky Cup.
It would have been easy for him to take a vacation and delegate Martin Lapointe or Nick Bobrov to go to Edmonton, but no.
He went himself, in person, in the middle of August!
It's rare to see that, but we love it, and it speaks volumes about the Montreal Canadiens' general manager.
Considering that the free agency period stretches almost until mid-July, and considering that he worked very hard last week, having notably signed Arber Xhekaj, Justin Barron, and Kaiden Guhle, we realize that Kent Hughes hasn't taken much vacation this year.
In short, he is genuinely passionate and a hard worker, this Kent Hughes.
