On this last day of the Canadiens' season, Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton are going to receive a very nice gift today.

Probably one of the most important gifts with the new reality of the NHL, that is space and leeway under the salary cap.

It is supposed to be announced today, but it's this Tuesday that the buyout of Karl Alzner's contract ends!

Buyout of Karl Alzner's contract by Marc Bergevin: it ends today!

It will give a nice boost to the CH leaders for their summer acquisitions!

"The Karl Alzner contract buyout officially ends today.

Marc Bergevin signed him to a 5 year, $23.125 million deal in 2017.

Andrei Markov was not re-signed that summer & ended his NHL career at 990 games (all with the Habs).." - Via HabsOnReddit

The end of a mistake by the former management!

Alzner, now 35 years old, hasn't played since 2020. He ultimately played 95 games for the Montreal Canadiens. (13 points and a -7 differential)
