The goalie drafted with the 69th overall pick in 2023 is now considered one of the best young goalies outside the NHL in the world, and he continues to impress.
His statistics speak volumes (29 wins, 5 losses, an average of 2.19, and a save percentage of .925), but that's not all.
His character, mental strength, and comments from other players about him make him a very special prospect.
In the last few hours, the Montreal Canadiens organization has released an official statement regarding the young goalie:
Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton seem to have made a big splash with this selection.
Fowler is officially among the three finalists for the title of the country's best college goalie, in his rookie season no less! (which is obviously impressive)
At this point, the CH seems to have acquired the best goalie of the 2023 draft and a potential future number one goalie in the NHL. (Fowler was the 6th goalie selected in 2023)
Remember, expert Scott Wheeler (The Athletic) just ranked Fowler in third place among all goaltending prospects 23 years and under, not playing in the NHL on a regular basis.
He was behind Jesper Wallstedt and Yaroslav Askarov but ahead of Spencer Knight, Devon Levi, and Dustin Wolf, among others.
Last season, Devon Levi was talked about as an acquisition, well imagine if the CH simply drafted a better goalie than Levi in the 3rd round! That would be genius, and it truly seems to be the case.
