Martin St-Louis makes a first big decision on Patrik Laine and shares his plan publicly
At a press conference just a few minutes ago, Montreal Canadiens head coach Martin St-Louis commented on the arrival of Patrik Laine.
Without a doubt, it's quite the player stepping into his locker room, and it was the very first time St-Louis could speak about it publicly.
Naturally, reporters quickly brought up Laine to Martin St-Louis, and he has already made an important decision regarding the Finnish scorer.
Martin St-Louis doesn't want to put any pressure on Patrik Laine and plans to take a different approach with him
I love it! Some NHL head coaches would constantly be on Laine's back, trying to «break» him and force him to play up to his massive potential, but that won't be the case for Martin St-Louis.
St-Louis explained that he doesn't coach all twenty players in the same way and uses a different approach to motivate each of them.
In some cases, he's stricter and more demanding, while in others, he simply lets the players enjoy themselves.
For Patrik Laine, Martin St-Louis has made the clear decision to just let him have fun.
The Canadiens head coach was firm in front of reporters.
He simply wants Patrik Laine to enjoy playing hockey this season.
He wants the former Blue Jacket to just be happy coming to the arena and have a great season. In his view, the rest will follow.
Personally, I'm convinced this is the right approach and will help Patrik Laine flourish much more than if his coach were constantly pressuring him.
It also seems clear that Patrik Laine will start the season in the top six and on the power play. We can't wait to see it.
