This is Laine's second trade since 2016, having been moved from the Winnipeg Jets to the Columbus Blue Jackets in January 2021 (in the Pierre-Luc Dubois trade).
At the time of that trade, there were numerous rumors about the very negative atmosphere in the Jets' locker room.
In fact, here's what TVA Sports reports.
Other sources suggested that "some Jets leaders" were simply trying to instill work habits in the young Laine.
In any case, it ended poorly, and Laine was simply no longer comfortable in the Winnipeg locker room even though he had just put up 66 points in 69 games.
Today, with the Montreal Canadiens, I am confident that he will be treated very well in the locker room, and I am sure he will be much more comfortable.
This will be new for him, especially after what we learned yesterday via Aaron Portzline that four Blue Jackets players requested Patrik Laine's immediate departure from Columbus.
If Laine can simply be comfortable, happy, and feel good in his work environment, I am certain he can achieve great things for the Montreal Canadiens.
I stand by it. Patrik Laine is quite the acquisition by Kent Hughes.
