Patrik Laine, forward for the Montreal Canadiens, gave fans quite a scare when he had to step away over the past few days.

On Saturday, the organization simply announced that he needed a treatment day, but this quickly sparked a wave of concern.

After all, it's understandable for fans to be wary when it comes to injuries.

Patrik Laine Explains His Absence, Confirming It Was Linked to His Recent Lack of On-Ice Activity

We suspected that this was probably the real reason for his absence, but he has now confirmed it himself.

«After undergoing shoulder surgery, Laine stated that he had only been on the ice three times before joining Montreal in August.»

So, that explains it.

He has barely skated in the past few months, so it makes sense that there would be an adjustment period at the start of an intense training camp.

«The guys have been practicing and training since May. I didn't have the chance to do that. Since we're going full throttle every day, it's a good idea to have therapeutic days off.»

It's likely better to go gradually to avoid a more serious injury.

We suspected it was probably a simple matter of "load management" and workload management, but it's still reassuring to hear.

Let's not forget that 26-year-old Patrik Laine only played 18 games last season with the Columbus Blue Jackets (6 goals and 3 assists).
