I must admit that I was worried about seeing him struggle at first, especially after the many injuries over the past few years and months, but clearly, my concerns were completely unfounded.
Even though expectations were high, Laine has exceeded them. Montreal Canadiens fans love him, and clearly, he loves Montreal.
In an interview after last night's game against the Anaheim Ducks, Laine made some very interesting statements.
Notably, he said this:
Patrik Laine feels at home here.
See the noteworthy interview in question:
Let's remember that Laine's contract ends at the end of next season, and he will then be a free agent.
It would be a real shame to lose him, but at the same time, hearing statements like these, I'm not too worried about his future with the Montreal Canadiens, and I trust Kent Hughes will eventually offer him a contract extension.
Laine, 26 years old, has 4 points in 4 games this season, including three goals, and he currently earns $8.7 million per year.
Would you like Kent Hughes to offer him a contract extension?
Also, let's remember that Laine's fiancée, Jordan Leigh, has recently started French lessons, which says a lot about their long-term intentions.
A story to follow, but clearly, Laine is currently building a strong case to be part of the long-term plans.
