The reputable site The Hockey News has drawn significant criticism following the death of Johnny Gaudreau.

While the tragedy involving the brothers Matthew and Johnny Gaudreau is still very recent, and as there are new developments regarding the accident, they could have waited before discussing trade opportunities.

It's not a big deal, and they certainly had no bad intentions, but it's understandable why many fans were disappointed.

The Hockey News Already Sends Christian Dvorak or Joel Armia to Columbus

As we mentioned earlier, following the tragic death of Johnny Gaudreau, the Blue Jackets will be unable to meet the NHL salary floor (at least not without making some moves).

It is in this context that The Hockey News mentioned the following:

«If the Columbus Blue Jackets need help reaching the salary cap floor, Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens could be in a position to assist them.»

«While the hockey world is still reeling from the tragic death of Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew, the show must go on for the Blue Jackets, who find themselves in a delicate situation concerning the salary floor.»

They further specified:

«Four names come to mind: Brendan Gallagher, Josh Anderson, Joel Armia, and Christian Dvorak. The last two have contracts nearing their end and would solve the Jackets' problem.

Although it is hard not to sympathize with the Jackets, who are in such a situation because of a tragedy, Kent Hughes won't assist them just for the sake of helping and will need some kind of return to part with one or the other asset.»

Perhaps I'm being too critical, but I think it's still too soon to discuss proposals like this.

In any case, I believe the best solution would simply be for Gary Bettman to grant a special permission to the Jackets following the death of Johnny Gaudreau.

Our thoughts sincerely go out to the loved ones of Matthew and Johnny Gaudreau, their families, and the entire Columbus Blue Jackets organization.

This is a true nightmare.
