Since the arrival of the excellent Chantal Machabée as Vice President of Hockey Communications for the Montreal Canadiens, and since the appointment of the Jeff Gorton/Kent Hughes tandem, it really feels like the organization is making an effort towards its ambassadors, but also towards former members of the organization.
Yesterday afternoon, important news broke regarding a former defenseman of the organization.
Jordie Benn announces his retirement after 12 seasons in the NHL.
Once again, the Montreal Canadiens organization has shown its great class in terms of communication by acknowledging this major announcement for Benn.
It's rare to see an NHL organization issue this kind of statement for a former player, but it speaks volumes about the Montreal Canadiens.
It's a small gesture that deserves recognition and was surely greatly appreciated by Jordie Benn and his family.
As reported by the NHL website, Jordie Benn, 37, amassed 137 points (26 goals, 111 assists) in 607 regular season games with the Dallas Stars, Montreal Canadiens, Vancouver Canucks, Winnipeg Jets, Minnesota Wild, and Toronto Maple Leafs.
Without realizing it, he still spent a good part of his career with the Montreal Canadiens, having been acquired by Marc Bergevin in the Greg Pateryn trade in 2017.
