The NHL Announces a Last-Minute Change to the Montreal Canadiens' First Goal
The National Hockey League announced a change to the first goal scored by the Montreal Canadiens today.
In fact, there was some confusion, as the NHL had to correct its correction.
It was initially announced that the first goal scored by the Canadiens, against the Boston Bruins, had been changed.
Arber Xhekaj was then credited with the goal.
But ultimately, the goal was changed again and again, a third time, to be credited to Cole Caufield.

The confusion is understandable, but the final verdict is that it is indeed Cole Caufield's goal, his 15th of the season!
What a play by Arber Xhekaj on this sequence nonetheless!
Fun fact: With his goal today, Cole Caufield became the third Canadiens player in the last 35 years to reach the 15-goal mark of a season in 24 games or fewer. The others to achieve this were Tyler Toffoli (in 2020-21) and Brian Savage (in 1995-96).
The Canadiens' goal was officially changed to Cole Caufield's; Arber Xhekaj's first of the season will have to wait a little longer.
Priyanta Smith Further details will follow, but what a start to the season for young Cole Caufield who scored his 16th goal later in the game, and what an excellent play by Arber Xhekaj!
Let's hope it continues, as Habs fans are genuinely in search of good and encouraging news right now.
