We have some action on the NHL waiver wire, and it could be very interesting for Montreal Canadiens fans.

Today, three names have been placed on waivers, including a goaltender who could really catch the interest of Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton, especially after today's game.

»The Canadiens only gave the Sabres ONE single high-danger scoring chance today. That's excellent. Cayden Primeau allowed 5 goals. That's the complete opposite of excellent.» - A. Martineau

So, let's talk about these three players.

Andreas Athanasiou, Matt Benning, and Kaapo Kahkonen placed on NHL waivers

The name that could be targeted here by Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens is definitely the last one.

«He obviously wouldn't be a savior, but at this point, I would claim Kaapo Kahkonen off waivers and place Cayden Primeau there so he can report to Laval. A little wake-up call for the young guy. The Canadiens have nothing to lose anyway.» - MOB

This could possibly spell the end for Primeau.

Kahkonen, 28, is a 6-foot-2, 217-pound goaltender. In his NHL career, he has appeared in 140 games, posting a save percentage close to 0.900 and a record of 49-68-15.

Matt Benning, 30, has accumulated 102 points in 464 career NHL games. He's a right-handed defenseman who was recently traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Andreas Athanasiou, 30, is a speedy forward with 245 points in 492 career NHL games, but no points in five games this season with the Chicago Blackhawks.

A situation to watch closely tomorrow afternoon!

We're focusing on Kahkonen, as things are extremely challenging for Primeau, but Benning could also be an option for the Canadiens as a steady right-handed defenseman.
