Major suspension for the hit on Connor Bedard? We just learned that Brendan Smith of the Devils made a legal play
It's always interesting to have the opinion of experts when there is a polarizing sequence or story in the world of hockey.
This is currently the case with what happened between Connor Bedard and Brendan Smith last night.
Let's remember that, following this sequence, Bedard was placed on the injured list by the Blackhawks due to a fracture.
Review the sequence here:
In short, it's causing a stir.
Some fans are convinced that Smith should be suspended by the NHL, while others are convinced of the opposite, that it was a perfectly legal hit and that Bedard should have protected himself better.
See what expert Luc Gélinas, from RDS, thinks:
»Brendan Smith's check was completely legal. Moreover, he hardly moved, practically just turning to offer his shoulder.
It's very unfortunate indeed... and this, regardless of the status of the injured player.»
And he adds this:
«In this case, it's more of a head hitting the shoulder. It's not because it's Connor Bedard that we should review the rulebook.»
- Luc Gélinas, RDS
That's a very good point and we wanted to share it with you!
Jason Demers also shared his opinion on the hit:
100% clean hit by Brendan Smith it's just unfortunate that Connor Bedard fractured his jaw. He's young he will heal fast
Even Hawks coach Luke Richardson didn't think it was malicious:
«I don't know if it was dirty. I think Connor was reaching for a puck and didn't see him. I don't think he stepped up on him. I just think he kind of stopped and Connor ran headfirst right into him.»
And you, what do you say about it?
