Big news just broke in the NHL.

Gary Bettman has imposed a very severe penalty on the Ottawa Senators, following the failed transaction involving Evgenii Dadonov.

The Ottawa Senators have just lost (via penalty) a first-round pick in the 2024, 2025, or 2026 draft.

Ouch!

A reminder of this absolute fiasco.

The Sens had traded Dadonov to Las Vegas in 2021, but they completely forgot to submit the list of 10 teams from his no-trade clause.

Dadonov was then subsequently traded to the Anaheim Ducks by the Golden Knights, but this transaction was cancelled by the league, an extremely rare event. (because Anaheim was on Dadonov's no-trade list, a list that Vegas did not have in hand)

The Golden Knights looked ridiculous during this saga, but the real culprits were the Senators. The Golden Knights didn't even know that the team was part of his list of teams where he refused to be traded.

Additional information will be communicated later, but in short, the Ottawa Senators have indeed lost a first-round pick.

Case closed.
