Tragedy: a young Maple Leafs forward, Rodion Amirov, has suddenly passed away
Ouch. That's really the kind of story that ruins my day.
Agent Dan Milstein has just announced the death of Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Rodion Amirov.
We are at a loss for words.
During the 2020 NHL draft, with the 15th overall pick and just ahead of the selection of Kaiden Guhle by the Montreal Canadiens (16th pick), the Toronto Maple Leafs drafted the dynamic young forward Amirov.
He was to become their top young prospect and a future dominant forward for them.
At the beginning of 2022, young Amirov was diagnosed with a brain tumor and he was sent to Germany for treatment.
He made solid progress and even believed he could attempt a return to play in November.
Finally, obviously, everything fell apart for young Amirov and we learned today that he has died.
I can't believe it. It's infinitely sad.
See the official announcement.
Details to follow.
