Ear reattached to his head and skull fracture: John Carlson breaks the silence on the blood-curdling scene involving him
On December 23rd, during a game against the Winnipeg Jets, Washington Capitals defenseman John Carlson experienced a terrifying incident.
Unfortunately, he was hit directly in the head by a powerful shot clocked at over 90 miles per hour.
He lived through every hockey player's nightmare.
In a recent touching interview, Carlson confirmed a circulating rumor. His ear indeed had to be reattached to his head. Unbelievable.
Carlson provided more details about his injury, which could have been fatal for him.
He suffered from a skull fracture, a severed temporal artery, and a severed ear. The player stated, however, that he did not have a concussion.
What a story!
And today, we learn extremely reassuring news.
John Carlson, against all odds, is getting closer to a return to the game, as he has resumed skating with the team since March 8th.
"I just got struck by lightning. That's the only way to describe it. The pain was unbearable, I thought I wouldn't make it out." - John Carlson
Truly impressive!
I couldn't see anything but I could hear it, Carlson said. At that point, I kind of had my bearings. At first, it sounded like a normal goal but the roar didn't stop. Then I hear (Ovi's goal) song and I know what's happening.
Then you start feeling sorry for yourself,» he added, It's a big day for the Caps, for Ovi. I'm injured and it sucks.
The slapshot lacerated John's artery, leaving a big scar near his ear. Carlson's wife Gina recounted back in January that her husband's ear had to be partially reattached, likely due to the severed artery.
With your ear back on , you came home from the hospital & did it all, Gina Carlson said on Instagram. She later added, Your strength doesn't even come close to your heart and the husband and dad you are.
As the Capitals are currently fighting for a spot in the playoffs, Carlson's return to the game will undoubtedly help and inspire them.
