Disturbing development concerning David Reinbacher: he is suffering from a disease that is causing serious problems in both knees
In the past few minutes, DansLesCoulisses revealed concerning information regarding the Montreal Canadiens' 5th overall draft pick, David Reinbacher.
Here are the explanations provided by Marc-Olivier Cook:
"Maxime Truman revealed that the young defenseman is experiencing problems in both knees.
In fact, this is due to his diagnosis of Osgood-Schlatter disease, a common cause of knee pain in children and adolescents. The disease causes cartilage and bone fragmentation in both of his knees."
We also learn that these knee issues are already causing him trouble.
During the recent development camp with the Canadiens, Reinbacher had to skate with braces on both knees. Just imagine!
It is evident that this condition is highly detrimental to his mobility, acceleration, and change of direction. Ouch.
Certainly, this is a cause for concern.
The good news is that if the disease does not worsen and remains under control, the consequences should be manageable. However, it will certainly require close monitoring.
It is also possible that his condition will improve as he finishes growing.
Considering all this, it becomes even more logical to think that the Canadiens will send Reinbacher back to Europe next season to protect him from the more physical play in North America. We wouldn't want him to exacerbate his injuries.
Regardless, the priority is undoubtedly Reinbacher's health and well-being.
The only lingering question is whether the Canadiens were aware of this condition before the draft or if it is a newly surfaced issue discovered during the development camp.
