About a month ago, we talked about this chilling scene that ended the season of Nashville Predators forward Matt Duchene. It almost ended his career, too.
In an article from TVA Sports, we learn that the forward has agreed to talk about this story and he makes some frightening revelations.
To review the scene:
By blocking that shot, Duchene literally lost a piece of his finger.
« When Duchene removed his glove after blocking the shot, the tip of his finger was still inside the glove. »
In the past few hours, Duchene has revisited this frightening episode:
« I felt weird. I removed my glove, looked at my finger, and that was the last time I saw it.. »
«There are moments that you don't forget. I was sitting there and the doctor asked me where my glove was. I looked at it and said, "why? Do you think a piece of my finger is in there?" They hid it from me by keeping the missing segment.. »
- Matt Duchene
Phew!
He added that losing a part of his body was very mentally difficult, and we can obviously understand that.
In the end, Duchene underwent two surgeries, but he will never recover his lost finger piece.
« Specialists did not connect the pieces, but instead opted for attaching the nail and inserting a screw to promote the healing of the fractured bones. » - Via TVA Sports
Duchene, 32, has accumulated 56 points, including 22 goals, in 71 games this season. He is having another brilliant campaign.
He will likely be ready for the start of next season after a very long healing period.
