In the last few seconds, the Chicago Blackhawks made a major announcement.

Their franchise player for nearly 20 years, their captain, the mentor of so many young players including a certain Kirby Dach, Jonathan Toews, has officially played his last game ever for the Hawks:

"I've had a number of conversations with Jonathan throughout the season about his future with the Blackhawks, and recently, we had the difficult conversation that we won't be re-signing him this offseason.

Tonight will be his final game as a Blackhawk, and it was very important to us to be able to provide the proper send off for Jonathan and our fans.

He has done so much for this organization, and no matter where he plays next, we're excited our fans get the chance to show Jonathan exactly how much he means to them."

Has he played his last game in the NHL career? See insider Pierre LeBrun's information on this subject.

"The plan is for Toews to take some time after the season and see how he feels, etc. If a Cup contender comes calling July 1, does that interest him? Or does he pack it in after a terrific career. TBD."

It's truly the end of an era in Chicago, and possibly for the NHL.
