Here is something very interesting.

Just as Patrick Roy has literally just come back to coaching in the National Hockey League (finally), having been hired by the New York Islanders on January 20th, could he already be leaving his position?

Could Patrick Roy follow Barry Trotz's footsteps and become a GM?

This comes from the excellent Stefen Rosner, probably the most well-connected journalist with the New York Islanders, who made the following statement (remembering that Lou Lamoriello is 81 years old):

Rosner believes that Roy could succeed him as the head of the Long Island team, and Benoît Desrosiers could take over behind the bench. Wow.

«I think at some point, Roy will be the GM and Desrosiers will be the head coach.» - Stefen Rosner

So, could it soon be over for Roy behind the bench? At any rate, it's already a possibility that's being discussed in New York.

Will it happen this summer? The next summer? To be continued!

Personally, I've always pictured Roy more as a head coach than as a general manager, but he is certainly capable of being strong in either of these two major roles.

What would you do if you were the Islanders, when Lou retires? Keep Patrick behind the bench or give him a promotion as GM?
