This offer comes from analyst Marc-Olivier Beaudoin, and it is currently causing quite a stir on social media.
Personally, I would not make this trade, and if I were Kent Hughes, I would decline this offer.
That said, here is the offer in question, submitted by Beaudoin.
I love Askarov and believe in him a lot, but I also believe strongly in Fowler, and in my opinion, he should absolutely not be traded.
There are prospects-like Jacob Fowler, like Lane Hutson, and a few other similar names-that I consider nearly «untouchable» and that I would absolutely not trade.
Why? Because I believe we absolutely need to wait and see their potential.
What if Jacob Fowler becomes a Jake Oettinger? What if Lane Hutson becomes an Adam Fox? It doesn't mean that will happen, but I believe these are names that Kent Hughes should absolutely not trade.
We need to wait and see what they become because their potential is too immense.
Anyway, here is Beaudoin's post.
In this scenario, the Canadiens would receive Yaroslav Askarov, Zachary L'Heureux, and a second-round draft pick, while the Predators would receive Logan Mailloux and Jacob Fowler.
I sincerely believe that Nashville would be the winner here.
For now, 41.3% of respondents would accept this trade offer if they were in the shoes of the Montreal Canadiens' general manager, which is more than I expected.
It's certain that fans would love L'Heureux, and it's certain that Yaroslav Askarov has the potential to become a franchise goaltender, but at the risk of repeating myself, I would not trade Jacob Fowler so quickly. (nor Logan Mailloux, for that matter)
And you, would you make this trade knowing Askarov wants out of Nashville?
