According to information from the reputable Darren Dreger, here is a very interesting trade that was ready to be announced and was cancelled at the last second.

From what we understand, the trade had been approved by both general managers, but a high-ranking official from the Maple Leafs cancelled everything.

In short, here is the trade in question:

TO TORONTO:

-Brendan Hagel

-Marc-André Fleury

TO CHICAGO:

-Petr Mrazek

-Matthew Knies

-First-round picks (2)

Wow, this would have been big! This information resurfaced after we learned that apparently, Brendan Shanahan has been blocking trades concluded by GM Kyle Dubas over the past few years.

«Here's a trade that didn't happen. Chicago and Toronto discussed Hagel and Fleury, with the Leafs, for Mrazek, Matthew Knies, and first-round picks. It never reached a stage where Fleury was officially asked to waive. Toronto declined based on the future contracts involved.»

- Darren Dreger

In the end, Hagel was traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning for Taylor Raddysh, Boris Katchouk, and a first-round pick 2024.

Fleury was traded to the Minnesota Wild, as you know, for a 2022 second-round pick.

Mrazek did end up being traded to Chicago, along with a 2022 first-round pick, for a second-round pick.
