As you may already be aware, the Philadelphia Flyers bought out Anthony DeAngelo's contract in recent days.

In relation to this significant decision made by GM Daniel Brière, an official team statement sparked controversy due to a blatant lack of respect towards the 27-year-old defenseman.

Here is the paragraph from the statement that caught attention:

"DeAngelo produced points at a reasonable rate (11 goals, 42 points in 70 games) and brought a certain intensity and physical competitiveness. However, the Flyers struggled to keep the puck out of their own net when DeAngelo was on the ice."

Ouch!

On one hand, the Flyers downplayed his very solid production this season, where he scored 11 goals and earned 42 points in 70 games, by describing it as "reasonable."

This offensive performance actually ranked 27th among NHL defensemen, surpassing prominent defensemen in the league like Kris Letang, Thomas Chabot, Morgan Rielly, Aaron Ekblad, Seth Jones, and many others.

They also openly mentioned that DeAngelo was a problem defensively for his team.

Let's just say that for an official team statement, the Flyers missed a great opportunity to simply thank their player for his services, rather than belittling his game and on-ice performance.
