We thought that Cayden Primeau had made the team, and the team would keep three goalies to start the season, but not so fast.
Earlier today, in a press briefing, the young Primeau made a bizarre and surprising statement coming from Kent Hughes.
So much for communication.
Wow. It is indeed very surprising and special to see that Hughes and Gorton never told Primeau (and Ylonen) that they had officially "made the team".
It's their very first time achieving this. It's a dream come true for them, and it's usually something announced in the GM's office, in a very formal manner.
Not even a single call to announce the news? In fact, they haven't even received confirmation at this time, even though the deadline to submit the final rosters has passed.
You can guess that it's causing a lot of chatter.
Clearly, they are on the Habs roster and the deadline has passed.
But especially in Primeau's case, could he still be traded? It definitely seems to be a possibility.
Coming from a GM like Lou Lamoriello, this wouldn't be so surprising (without taking anything away from him), but coming from Kent Hughes, it's curious.
To be continued.
