Yesterday, it got slightly lost in the massive wave of news, but the Chicago Blackhawks and the New York Islanders made a very interesting trade.

Here it is:

TRADE!

To Chicago:
- Josh Bailey
- 2026 2nd round pick

To the Islanders:
- Future considerations

Why is this an interesting trade? Because Bailey has a profile very similar to that of Mike Hoffman, of the Montreal Canadiens.

Bailey, 33 years old, was signed for 5 million dollars per season until 2024.

(He was bought out by Chicago yesterday)

Hoffman, 33 years old, is signed for 4.5 million dollars per season until 2024.

(his buyout would have a very similar impact to that of Bailey)

The trade concluded yesterday between the Blackhawks and the Islanders therefore plainly shows what it would logically cost Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens to trade Mike Hoffman.

Would you do it?

In any case, we do not believe that Hughes will give a 2nd round pick just to get rid of Hoffman a year earlier, so we should expect to see him back in town next year in all likelihood.

Unless Hughes can manage to do it for a 3rd round pick?

To be continued.

That would give us this: Hoffman + 2nd or 3rd pick, for future considerations.
