It's no wonder that trade rumors about him have been rampant since the Rangers' elimination. Not only does the organization still have to sign at least nine more players to complete its roster, it only has around $11.76M to do so. This is not to mention that Lafrenière will become a restricted free agent this summer. He will undoubtedly want more than the minimum wage!
Despite his below-expectations start to his career, which let's admit, are very high, interest in Lafrenière in the league seems to be present.
Many appear to want to emulate what Kent Hughes did with Dach and are looking for a player to revive. Lafrenière is exactly that type of player and someone who knows him well, his former agent, Emilie Castonguay, knows it very well.
The latter, who is now assistant GM of the Canucks, seems to be strongly promoting the candidacy of her former client. So much so that the Vancouver organization reportedly tried to acquire him during the off-season. It would therefore not be surprising to see an agreement between the two organizations by the next draft.
It remains to be seen whether other teams, like the Canadiens, will join the race and raise the bids.
A story to watch!
See below the big statement from Dhaliwal, revealing that the Canucks will aggressively try to acquire Lafrenière. They are already preparing their trade offer.
If Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton want him, they will have competition!
