Please know that we are reporting this information for the pure pleasure of debating the various trade proposals that have been brought up on social media.
The Twitter account Hockey Night in Montreal notably raised a monster trade involving Leafs forward, Mitch Marner, and the Montreal Canadiens.
Here is the proposal in question:
The new Leafs' general manager will have the daunting task of making a major decision regarding his four star players this summer, and the possibility of making a trade could be considered. Indeed, Auston Matthews and William Nylander will become unrestricted free agents at the end of next season and there are only two years left on Mitch Marner and John Tavares's contracts.
Brad Treliving therefore finds himself in a difficult situation as Matthews, Marner, and Nylander may potentially ask for a raise in their next agreement. Although we strongly believe that William Nylander will be the forward sacrificed to acquire a young defenseman, could the Leafs' GM attempt to trade Mitch Marner?
One thing is certain, such a transaction would allow the Tricolore to acquire one of the most electrifying players in the entire NHL. Since joining the Ontario team, Mitch Marner has racked up 554 points in 507 games. There's absolutely no doubt that acquiring him would completely change the Canadiens' offense.
However, the trade proposal mentioned above makes no sense. Brad Treliving would be insane to trade a player as talented as Mitch Marner for late draft picks and Josh Anderson, Jordan Harris, and Joel Edmundson.
