As the Montreal Canadiens increasingly show interest in players like defender David Reinbacher, the idea of the team moving back their 1st round pick (5th overall) is becoming increasingly popular.

Following this, an interesting trade proposal has surfaced and seems rather logical.

To allow the Red Wings to draft generational talent Matvei Michkov, the following suggestion was raised:

TO DETROIT:

5th overall pick
133rd overall pick
TO MONTREAL:

9th overall pick
17th overall pick
43rd overall pick

Would you do it, if you were in Kent Hughes' place?

This would give five selections to the Habs in the first 43 picks of the 2023 draft, and importantly, in an excellent class.

It would still be major for the future.

Here is our opinion, which we rarely give in general. You can obviously provide counter-arguments.

If it were up to us, we would not trade the pick and we would draft Matvei Michkov at the 5th spot.

However, if the CH does not intend to draft Michkov and if Will Smith, Adam Fantilli, and Leo Carlsson are all drafted in the top-4, we would make this trade.

What do you think?
