In the latest episode of his podcast, renowned insider Elliotte Friedman (Sportsnet), who talks with general managers and agents of the involved players, shared some very interesting information.

It concerns trade rumors involving Jake Allen, the Edmonton Oilers, and the Montreal Canadiens

It's not surprising because Kent Hughes himself admitted it, but the Canadiens are actively trying to trade a goaltender.

There's more.

A trade sending Jake Allen to the Edmonton Oilers was almost finalized and announced a few weeks ago. So the rumors were founded.

Friedman himself believed that it was going to happen any minute, at one point, but the announcement he was waiting for never ultimately came.

Friedman (32TP): "I really do think there was a time this year I thought Jake Allen was going to be in Edmonton, now I'm not convinced that's going to happen"

For some reason he's unaware of, when a deal was almost done between Kent Hughes and Ken Holland, something turned everything upside down.

So, clearly something caused the deal to fall through at the last second.

Jake Allen with the Los Angeles Kings?

Friedman adds that the team to watch now in this case is Los Angeles. It's worth mentioning that Marc Bergevin knows Allen well.

»Friedman on Kings (32TP): "I think they will add a goalie, I do. I think they will add a goalie, whether it's Allen or somebody else, I think they will add a goalie"

- Elliotte Friedman

So, a big file to watch!

Allen, 33 years old, has a record of 5-8-2 this season, with an average of 3.49 and a save percentage of 0.901. (in 15 games) He earns 3.85 million per season for two more seasons.
