The NHL trade deadline is upon us more than ever and hockey fans are always extremely excited at this time of year.

If we were spoiled last year, it could be a little quieter this year according to player agent Philippe Lecavalier, a person very well placed to talk about it.

During his appearance on the JiC show on TVA Sports, he mentioned that this year's market will benefit buyers and that we could even see some surprises, such as the acquisition of Ryan O'Reilly by the Toronto Maple Leafs.

"A lot of teams see themselves winning the Cup this year."

But the fact that many teams are stuck with the salary cap could complicate the work of general managers, and Lecavalier believes there would be fewer trades this year.

"First of all, you need a good 'fit' hockey-wise. Then you have to make it work on the money side. I expect there to be fewer transactions than in recent years."

However, the agent is confident that we will see some major trades and that some teams could pull a rabbit out of their hat by March 3.

"On the other hand, I still believe there will be some significant trades."

There are just under two weeks to go until March 3, and there have already been several big names that have changed addresses. O'Reilly comes to mind, of course, but so do Bo Horvat and Vladimir Tarasenko, and now we wonder who will be the next to leave to an organization with a chance to get their hands on the Stanley Cup.

We'll have the answer by March 3rd.

Here in Montreal, we will be watching Sean Monahan, Josh Anderson, Joel Edmundson, Evgenii Dadonov and company.
